Items you will need:
- cake covered in black fondant
- 1 green fondant
- 1 yellow fondant
- 1 black fondant
- 1 red fondant
- 1 white fondant
- 1 purple fondant
- 2 candy corn
- rolling pin
- knife cutting tool
- q-tip
- 4 toothpicks
Step 1
Knead the green fondant with 1/2 the yellow fondant packet to form lime green. Use your rolling pin to roll out and cut a large circle, 6 inches in diameter (tip: use your 6-inch rolling pin or a ruler to measure). Attach to the top of the cake to form the slime. Use a dab of water with your q-tip to attach fondant on the cake (like glue). Set aside the excess lime green fondant.
Step 2
Take 3 small pinches of black fondant and set aside (used for your eyes later on). Take 3/4 of the remaining black fondant and use your hands to roll out a long rope to attach to the top rim of the cake.
Step 3
Take the remaining 1/4 of black fondant and split it into two equal parts. Roll out each piece into a long thin rope and attach to the opposite sides of the cake to form the cauldron handles.
Step 4
Take 3 small pinches of purple fondant and set aside (used for your eyes later on). Take 3/4 of the purple fondant and split it into two equal parts. Roll out each piece into a shorter, thicker rope and taper one end to form the tentacle. Attach a toothpick to the thicker side of the tentacles and attach to the top of the cake with the tapered side hanging over the edge or twisting along the rim of the cake.
Step 5
Take the remaining 1/4 of purple fondant and roll balls to attach along the tentacle (becoming smaller as they near the end of the tentacle). Use a q-tip to push a divot in the balls to make the suctions.
Step 6
Take 3/4 of the white fondant and split it up into two parts (they don’t have to be exactly even). Sculpt these two pieces in your hands to form half bones. Attach a toothpick to the end of each piece and then attach to the top of the cake, so they are sticking up out of the cake.
Step 7
Take a pinch of white and set aside. Use the remainder of the white fondant to roll out three small balls. Slightly flatten the balls with your thumb and attach them to the top of the cake.
Step 8
Take the pinches of purple and green fondant to make smaller balls to flatten and put in the center of the eyes to form the colored iris. Take the remainder of your black fondant to repeat this step (using smaller amounts of fondant) to form the pupils. Attach to the top of the iris. Take the remainder of your white fondant and create tiny balls to form the twinkle in the eye.
Step 9
Take the remainder lime green fondant and pinch of several small pieces. For bubbles, roll some of the pieces into balls and slightly flatten on the top of the cake. For ripples, roll the remaining small pieces into tiny ropes and taper each end. Lay the ripples around the tentacles, eyes and bones.
Step 10
Take the red fondant packet and the remaining 1/2 yellow fondant packet and swirl together to form the flame look. Pinch off pieces of the swirled fondant, roll into a small ball, and taper one end. Attach all around the bottom border of the cake, with the tapered end facing up.
Step 11
Attach the candy corn sporadically around the top of the cake, where there may be extra spaces.
